the affirmation Song You Didn’t Know You Needed
There are songs that you can run back infinitely and it still wouldn’t be played enough, “Younger Me” by Dejah Monea is one of those songs for me (and will be yours too soon). The beats on the intro smoothly pull your attention. The drums have an African influence and the melody a Latin flare, each inspiring rhythm to take over your senses. Monea’s vocals draw you in with soothing siren-like tones and angelic harmonies straight out of classic R&B. Beyond the amazing auditory experience, the lyrics are affirming. As you listen, hear Dejah pour into her soul and give praise to her inner child. She speaks the words you long to hear, words that resonate and affirm.
When I want to feel connected with myself, or lift my spirits, this song is on my go to list. The words are empowering and catchy so they become phrases I sing throughout the day. I love the positivity of her lyrics. They help to reprogram subconscious messaging and my relationship with me. It is important to show one’s self love and compassion. Often times we get so caught up in the demands of life that our inner self is not raised to actualize our desires. Through consistent appreciation for self acknowledgement, self fulfillment, and self approval, we are able to grow into alignment and recognize our worth. That is why Dejah Monea’s single, “Younger Me”, is a beautifully produced artwork— true perfection. For in her song, she elevates her being and accepts her essence for what it has always been (worthy). We all benefit from music that repairs our connection with self, and with a very alluring voice, Dejah Monea is bound to have you hooked, all while giving praise to your inner child.
At times I am amazed at how much talent surrounds me. To know the artist of one of my favorite songs seems surreal. But as I reflect more, it isn’t that crazy. Talent, art, and creativity are immersive; they exist around and in us. The separation of art from community removes the appreciation for the culture we create. It takes a village to raise a child, and art is keeping our collective alive. WE are inspiring. So it’s important to recognize the value of those around us now, not after they ‘make it’. Dejah Monea is an inspiration to support local talent. Don’t miss out on her!

Monea has a real hit on her hands!
As a supporter, listener, and growing woman, I know that “Younger Me” has the power to heal many more because it is sharing self-adoring wisdom we can all benefit from. As a Communications Strategist, I would push this song as a single and continue to make content with trendy sound bites. By introducing the catchy and motivational phrases of the song, audiences will be attracted to the affirmations. Monea can enhance engagement through a lyric analysis interview. It will invite the audience into her creative process and develop the relationship between the song and its purpose. People are influenced by perspective and relatability. Given the song is about self empowerment and uplifting one’s inner child, many people will find comfort in the message. This could lead to a trend of people sharing what they would tell their younger self. Finally, I would advise Monea to create/tease a music video. As the song starts picking up, she can leverage her audience to increase engagement (views, likes, streams) in exchange for the release. If executed well, using her trending audio, the audience will support out of excitement and anticipation. This strategy will increase her outreach, grow engagement, and build a stronger community-based audience.
(All of this is a hypothetical strategy that I suggest and would love to see from Monea.)
