  • Ajani Zanaya is a visionary artist dedicated to empowering communities through storytelling, cultural preservation, and creative innovation. Her artistry is a testament to the transformative power of creative expression, demonstrating that art is not merely a reflection of culture but a force that ignites liberation and empowerment for all.

Ajani is a visionary storyteller, strategist, and cultural curator using media, policy, and the arts to amplify voices and ignite change. With a background in strategic communications, Africana studies, and digital media, she has built a career at the intersection of advocacy, artistic expression, and community empowerment.

Her work bridges media production, public policy, and arts administration—creating spaces where stories don’t just exist but drive action. Through digital campaigns, cultural programming, and grassroots organizing, she has championed increased arts funding, reproductive justice, and civic engagement. She has also contributed to research on racial and socioeconomic health disparities, Black scholarship accessibility, and cognitive performance among night shift workers in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control at Kennedy Krieger Institute, the Journal of Black Studies, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Her impact has been recognized through fellowships with The Future Is Black, Pittsburgh Public Theater’s Critical Insight Cohort, and 1Hood Media, as well as features in Carnegie Museum of Art’s Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh, Brew House Arts, and Creative Black Futures. She has hosted and produced media that drives cultural discourse, facilitated workshops for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust STEAM Symposium, and collaborated on projects that celebrate and uplift diverse communities. In 2024, she was honored with the Keeper of the Flame Award by The Legacy Arts Project for her contributions to creativity and social impact.
